This month’s NerdRoast: Uganda Mount Elgon Organic

Hi everyone,

As the cooler days settle in, I’m excited to introduce this month’s coffee: an organic bean from Uganda’s Mount Elgon. We haven’t roasted a Ugandan bean for a couple of years, so this is a nice treat for me. This bean brings a unique depth of flavor that reflects the careful, organic cultivation of smallholder farmers on Mount Elgon's fertile slopes.

The Origin: Located in Eastern Uganda, Mount Elgon provides ideal conditions for coffee growing, with its mineral-rich volcanic soil and high altitudes around 2,000 meters above sea level (~6,500 feet). These natural factors allow the beans to develop a distinct complexity and rich character, showcasing Uganda’s dedication to organic and sustainable coffee practices.

Tasting Notes: This Ugandan coffee offers an intriguing combination of chocolate, hazelnut, and honeydew. Each sip presents a balanced sweetness and subtle acidity, creating a smooth and satisfying experience that’s perfect for the colder months.

Roasting Notes: We’ve roasted these beans to a medium 403°F to highlight their rich chocolate and nutty undertones while preserving the delicate honeydew notes. This profile brings out a full-bodied and layered cup, ideal for those who enjoy a smooth and flavorful coffee.

I sincerely hope you enjoy these beans. Your feedback and thoughts are always appreciated!

Thank you, Tony
